Celebrate Hope 2012
Celebrate Hope 2012 Planning Underway
April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. In 2010 and 2011, ABC House held a community partnership dinner to celebrate the work done to make a difference in the lives of local abused children. On April 4, 2012, the “Tapestry of Hope” themed dinner will be held at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center. Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller will serve as emcee.
Table sponsors and table hosts are sought to cover the cost of the dinner and to fill the tables. This year’s event goal is 250 attendees. The dinner is provided at no charge to attendees, with the help of corporate sponsors. Sponsorships range from a $500 Table Sponsor to a $5,000 Premier Sponsor, with various levels of recognition and benefits attached.

Time passes so quickly.
We are now into the fall season and looking at winter and the holidays. Much has happened since I last wrote. I am pleased to report funding from the Dept. of Justice was reduced by 15% rather than the originally proposed 26%. Since the first of the year, ABC House has opened a record number of cases for children referred. Even though we received cuts in funding, the hard work of staff, members of the Board of Directors and the community at large has enabled ABC House to find funding to replace those cuts. In addition to meeting the immediate funding needs, ABC House has been able to raise funds through several grant resources to recruit and hire an additional part time medical provider. This has been a long term goal for the agency and will allow us to provide more medical services to children. I would like to thank Samaritan Health for their assistance and support of this important expansion to help ensure children of Linn and Benton Counties receive the services they need to intervene in abusive situations and move towards healing. Oct. 29th brought about the first Runaway Pumpkin Half Marathon held in Lebanon, Oregon benefiting ABC House. The race had over 700 runners and walkers participating. This event was only possible because of the generous support of local corporations, businesses and individual supporters who provided cash and in kind donations and many volunteer hours to make this race a great first year success. I would like to thank Lowe’s, ATI Wah Chang, NW Natural Gas and Xtreme Graphics for being just a few of our amazing sponsors. Again, ABC House and the children and families we serve are the benefits of such wonderful support. The funds raised from the half marathon will be used to directly support the comprehensive services ABC House provides. Please look further on this site for photos and information about the Runaway Pumpkin Half. In addition to hiring another medical provider, ABC House is now offering a prevention program to the community called Darkness 2 Light. This program is for adults and will help them become educated about child sex abuse. The purpose is to help adults be able to better recognize signs of possible abuse and to help better protect children. This program is particularly important for adults who work with children but is an effective prevention program for all interested adults. I would like to encourage each of you to become more knowledgeable of the issues that put children at risk of being abused. Child abuse is an issue which takes all of us being able to recognize and respond appropriately to protect the children of our communities. Together we can make them safer. Thank you for your interest in ABC House. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions, concerns or you are interest in becoming more involved in our efforts to protect, help and support children and their families.
