ABC House provides services to over 3,800 local people annually, including abuse assessments and medical consultation services to over 600 children each year. Child abuse and neglect occur across all races, nationalities, socioeconomic levels, and religions.
Studies show that abused children who do not receive appropriate support to address the trauma of abuse have a significantly increased risk of further abuse, inability to succeed in school, and long-term health issues including teen pregnancy and substance abuse. In addition, abuse and neglect during childhood have been liked to serious ailments in later life including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
